Create a Town Center for Hunt Club

Problem

Our community of Hunt Club, which stretches from the Airport Parkway on the east to the Rideau River on the west has no serious town center that offers employment and entertainment to all segments of the community. Consequently, almost all household members must travel outside the community to meet individual needs (shopping, work, entertainment, health, etc.). Only the center section of this demographic has access to convenient transportation (cars); the rest (the old and young and the less financially endowed) must rely on semi-convenient public transit, other people's resources, or languish in the neighborhood until their needs are met.

Proposals

Use the now-unused NE corner of the Hunt Club Mall parking lot to build (or sell for the purpse of building) a small unit of 2-3 stores right at that corner of the parking lot. A coffee house would be ideal, plus a variety store maybe, or a boutique.

Date Progress

4 Mar 2005 Emailed Maria McRae about using an existing lease opening at the Mall for a coffee house, and also emailed Starbucks again, with the same information.
22 Sept 2004 Received a response from Riocan indicating that they did not consider the population density of this area sufficiently high to merit expanding or changing the Hunt Club Mall. Sent Riocan another email clarifying our recent density increase and reiterating the benefits of such a change to both Riocan and to our community.
17 Sep 2004 Emailed 2nd Cup.
16 Sep 2004 Emailed Riocan representative in Toronto.
9 Sep 2004 Emailed this idea to Maria McRae. Also emailed the idea to the Starbucks rep, with clarification.
Aug 2004 Met with Starbucks marketing representatives planning Starbucks locations around Hunt Club. Received positive email from their representative, but without any specific focus on this particular concept.
